Why Being Young Feels So Exhausting

Why Being Young Feels So Exhausting (And Why Music Is the Only Safe Escape Left)

If you're in your 20s right now and life feels like a pressure-filled simulation, you’re not alone.
Most of us grew up thinking our twenties would be the peak of our lives.
But the reality?
We’re learning to survive.
Learning to accept failure.
And slowly learning to forgive ourselves.

In a world that’s only getting tougher and faster, music has become the last safe space left.

1. Your 20s: Where Social and Mental Pressure Hit All at Once

We're expected to:

  • Already be successful

  • Already be financially stable

  • Have a solid five-year life plan

Meanwhile, a lot of us just finished college or never had the chance because we had to work young.
Then there’s Instagram, where everyone else seems like they’ve already made it.
And us?
Still paying off dreams in installments while pretending we’re fine every day.

2. Music: A Safe Space That Doesn’t Ask “When Are You Getting Married?” or “Where Do You Work?”

Amid all the noise in life, music is the one thing that never judges.
And for many young people, music isn’t just entertainment it’s the most human form of escape.

But what kind of music truly becomes a sanctuary?
Not the kind that’s just viral.
Not just catchy for 15 seconds on TikTok.
But music with emotion, stories, and honesty.

3. HOUSEOFJOY’s Journey: From Nothing, With Just Guts and Determination

HOUSEOFJOY started from the very bottom.
We’re not a band with rich parents.
We had no connections, no studio, and no fancy gear at the beginning.

Vocals were recorded in a stuffy bedroom.
We built our own instruments and studio equipment from scratch trial and error, DIY-style.
We learned recording, mixing, and mastering all by ourselves. No classes. No courses. Because we couldn’t afford them.

We worked side jobs ride-hailing driver, events crew, retail assistant just to keep recording, creating, and eating day to day.

We're not asking for sympathy.
We just want to say: this music was born from real, hard life not sweet dreams.

🎤 Dymaz Redric (vocals/guitar):
“When life stops compromising with you, the only thing left to do is speak through songs. Sometimes, your own voice is the only thing that can pull you out of the dark.”

That photo of us performing our song “Corner of the Street” live in 2024 fighting the rain, playing original songs people had never heard before... That was us.

We’re not just musicians covering someone else’s hits.
We’re songwriters. We’re the real deal.

4. “Indie Rock”: Not a Trend, But a Form of Resistance

HOUSEOFJOY isn’t following trends.
We don’t make music to chase the market.
We make music because we have nowhere else to put these stories.

Our songs aren’t made for everyone.
They’re made for those who’ve ever felt:

  • Lost

  • Alone

  • Like the world doesn’t care, no matter how hard you try

Even heartbreak songs are part of it because you know what?
Struggle is human.
Everyone’s felt the sweetness and pain of love in some form.

Our music is honest songs from a generation that’s tired, but not giving up.
We call it The Next Rock.
Not a new genre, but a new attitude in music.

🎸 Rizky Tampani (Drums/Percusion):
“I don’t make music to please everyone. But if even one person out there listens and says, ‘Damn, I feel you’ that’s enough.”

5. From Empty Shows to DIY Physical CDs

We’ve played gigs with only 7 people in the audience.
We’ve turned down shows that didn’t want to pay us because dignity matters more than exposure.
And since no big label wanted us, we built our own.

We made our own CDs.
Our own limited merch.
We did everything ourselves.

And eventually, our CDs made it to shelves in real stores in major cities:
Santa CD Store Jakarta, Kios Ojo Keos Jakarta, Jajan Kaset Store Jakarta, thehighfidelity Jakarta, Zigi Zigi Store in Bandung, Volx Records in Bali.
And in our hometown Palembang, we sell through rumahtumbuh.buku, a shop run by our close friend we just share the space.

Everything was organic. No big-budget ads.
Just one thing: being honest with ourselves and our listeners.

6. If You’re Burnt Out, This Music Is for You

If today you feel tired...
If you feel like quitting...
If life feels far from ideal...

We just want to say:
You’re not alone.

And if you need a voice that gets you,
HOUSEOFJOY is here.

🥁 Rizky (drummer):
“I don’t need a huge stage to feel alive. I just need one thing my drums to be heard. Every beat carries my anger and my hope.”

Then you’ve already connected.
And that means the world to us.

We’re not a podcast.
We’re not a church.
We’re not a nostalgia act.

We are HOUSEOFJOY.
A band.
A voice.
A rebellion.

We’re not here to go viral.
We’re here to be honest.

And maybe, that’s what you’ve been looking for all along.
