HOUSEOFJOY – The Band Without Blessings, Nobody’s Waiting for Them to Go First
HOUSEOFJOY - The Band Without Blessings, Nobody’s Waiting for Them to Go First
Lyrics that cut deep not overdramatic, just real.
A melody that’s not just catchy but hits you in the chest.
Production that’s not rushed, but layered with soul and breath in every sound.
And yet somehow… the song feels like it was born just to be ignored.
No one shares it. It doesn’t land on playlists. It never shows up on those “advanced” TikTok algorithms.
But behind that song, there’s blood. There’s a story.
Sometimes even a life that was nearly lost to the pressure.
And this isn’t fiction.
This is a true story.
It’s the story of an Indonesian band called HOUSEOFJOY and a man named Dymaz Redric,
who chose to live with his music, rather than die slowly being consumed by the system.
From a Circle of 20 to Deafening Silence
HOUSEOFJOY didn’t start as a small band.
They once had a big circle: friends to hang out with, a solid support system, a production team even partners.
Everything was solid. Everyone believed in the same vision.
But when ideals were tested, people started backing out.
Not because the music sucked.
But because this path is too heavy to walk half-heartedly.
When the original lineup fell apart, Dymaz was left alone.
And not just without bandmates he lost close friends, a relationship, and even his job.
All at once. End of 2023.
Imagine: from being surrounded by 20 people to just 4–5.
Sometimes none at all.
But he didn’t stop.
Because to Dymaz, music isn’t just art.
It’s the last bit of sanity he has left.
Music wasn’t a choice it was the only way left to live.
Doing It All Solo. Because There Was No Other Option.
In the 2023–2024 lineup, Dymaz did almost everything by himself.
-
Synth? Him.
-
Bass on early tracks? Him.
-
Keyboards? Him.
-
Vocals? Him.
-
Lead guitar? Him.
-
Rhythm guitar? Him.
-
Sampling? Him.
-
Drums on the early album? Him.
-
Electronic beats? Also him.
-
Production, mixing, mastering? All his hands.
-
Visuals, distribution, promotion? Still him.
In the beginning, he even manually programmed drum and bass patterns because there were no players.
He also produced for artists on his own label, Kamartengahrecords, while working retail just to survive.
At that time, the only one helping was Iyan, who contributed rap vocals, 808 Sub Bass in the some track(he make the trial and eror, to add the contribute in a band) also a few lyrics.
The rest? Dymaz carried it all on his back.
For bass and drums on some tracks, he reached out to an old friend he used to jam with at café gigs.
Yep Dymaz also used to play music at cafés and busk.
But not for long. He felt:
“I can’t spend the rest of my life playing someone else’s songs.
I need to have my own voice.”
A Fated Meeting with Iyan
In early 2024, Dymaz met a rapper on Instagram.
His name? B.I.G Iyan. Turns out, they lived in the same city.
Before officially joining, Iyan featured on a track.
At the time, he only rapped over beats downloaded from the internet.
He didn’t understand production. Couldn’t play instruments.
No clue about sound design, VSTs, or mixing.
But Dymaz saw the potential.
He didn’t just ask him to collab he taught him everything from scratch.
From playing keys to structuring songs and performing with heart.
March 2024, Iyan officially joined as a member of HOUSEOFJOY. Initially, he played the keyboard, but Dymaz felt he wasn't suited for it and it was too heavy for him. Eventually, in 2025, Dymaz asked him to switch to bass. Now, Iyan is undergoing a learning process after the position change.
Rizky: The Facebook Drummer with a Dream to Be on Wikipedia
His full name’s Rizky Tampani the drummer now fueling every explosive beat of HOUSEOFJOY.
But they didn’t meet through auditions or industry connections.
Dymaz found him in a forgotten Facebook group like a digital graveyard.
Even the admin was inactive.
(Seriously, what young people are still active on Facebook?)
But if that post didn’t happen, they probably would’ve never met.
So yeah it was pure luck.
Rizky has a dream, simple but sharp:
“One day, I want to see my name on Wikipedia.”
Sounds small? Maybe.
But to a kid from the provinces, playing drums alone in his room, that dream is a lifeline.
HOUSEOFJOY became the first ship he could board to chase it.
Now, Rizky isn’t just a drummer he’s part of the band’s musical DNA.
From their quietest moments to their wildest chaos, he’s the engine keeping HOUSEOFJOY alive.
Even he work in Bali Right Now.., he sends patterns, drafts, and ideas just via voice notes and online DAWs.
Because when you’re on the same wavelength, distance means nothing.
The Reality: Falling, Rising, and Keeping On
Their lives are far from stable.
-
Rizky hustles odd jobs to stay afloat and keep creating.
-
Dymaz works retail to survive and fund their music.
-
Iyan works while attending college, interning, and looking for opportunities from event to event. He's also trapped in a cycle typical of being an "Anak mama" (mom's boy), which makes it hard to sneak out at night to find time for practice and collaborate on new songs because his parents tightly control his life in his early twenties.
Rehearsals? A nightmare.
Clashing schedules, expensive travel, basic instruments.
But they keep pushing.
Because they know: if they don’t build the stage, they’ll never get to play.
Now, they play shows they organize themselves proving music doesn’t need permission to live.
And even though they’re unwelcome in many places, they never stop.
They’re not looking for approval.
They’re not waiting for a “green light.”
Because they know if no one ever saw you coming, you can be the quiet threat.
And yeah they’ve been unofficially banned from their own local music scene.
Why?
Because they’re different.
Because they’re brave.
Because they won’t bend to what’s comfortable and stagnant.
HOUSEOFJOY doesn’t play it safe.
They can be rough, soft, beautiful, weird, or experimental.
That scares people who want the scene to stay “clean.”
Some even say they’re embarrassing the city’s name.
They swallowed all that.
But they didn’t just accept it.
They turned it into music.
Not Seeking Validation. Building Their Own World.
HOUSEOFJOY knows one thing:
If you can’t find space in the old system, build your own.
So they:
-
Released a 24-track debut album (insane).
-
Dropped an 11-minute avant-garde piece.
-
Sold CDs hand to hand.
-
Wore their country's original shirt "batik" on stage.
-
Blended rock, hip-hop, R&B/soul, ambient, gamelan, even noise and experimental into one.
If you want to label them, sure call them indie rock.
But they’re not your typical indie rock band.
And somehow, it all still breathes.
It all stays honest.
The World’s Not Ready. But We Are.
A lot of amazing indie songs never get heard too raw, too honest, too real.
But that’s exactly what makes them necessary.
HOUSEOFJOY isn’t here to chase trends.
They’re here for people like you the ones who’ve felt invisible, rejected, out of place.
If you’ve ever felt like you had to fake it to be accepted,
you’re one of us.
HOUSEOFJOY is music born from pain, surviving through rage, and living on because there’s no other way.
And believe this:
As long as honest music exists, our voices won’t disappear.
If you’ve read this far, you didn’t just hear a story.
You’re part of it now.
And maybe, stay a while.
We are HOUSEOFJOY.
And this is just the beginning.
